Our Practice
Northern Lights Psychiatry is an outpatient psychiatric practice located in Bedford, New Hampshire. We provide medication management, psychiatric evaluation, and coordination of care for adults, adolescents, and children. We are not an emergency or crisis service. If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
Appointments & Scheduling
New patient appointments are typically 60–90 minutes and include a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Follow-up appointments are generally 20–30 minutes. Appointments are available in-office in Bedford, NH and via secure telehealth throughout New Hampshire. To schedule, call our office or use the contact form on our Getting Started page.
Telehealth
We offer secure telehealth appointments for most services throughout New Hampshire. Telehealth visits are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant video platform. You will receive a link prior to your appointment. A quiet, private space and a device with a camera and microphone are required. Telehealth is not available for all services — please contact our office to confirm eligibility.
Insurance & Billing
We accept many major insurance plans. It is your responsibility to verify your mental health benefits prior to your appointment. We recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm coverage, co-pays, deductibles, and any prior authorization requirements. Self-pay and sliding scale options are available for patients without insurance or with limited coverage. Please contact our office for current self-pay rates.
Cancellation Policy
We require at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in discharge from the practice. We understand that emergencies happen — please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel.
Prescription Refills
Prescription refills are managed during scheduled appointments. We do not routinely provide refills outside of appointments. Please plan ahead and request refills at your appointment before your medication runs out. Controlled substance prescriptions are subject to additional requirements under New Hampshire law and federal regulations, including regular monitoring and urine drug screening.
After-Hours & Emergencies
Northern Lights Psychiatry does not provide 24-hour emergency coverage. If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing or texting 988. For non-urgent after-hours concerns, please leave a message and we will return your call on the next business day.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Your privacy is protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). We will not share your health information without your written consent, except as required by law. Substance use treatment records carry additional federal privacy protections under 42 CFR Part 2. You have the right to access your records, request corrections, and receive a copy of our Notice of Privacy Practices.
Patient Rights & Responsibilities
You have the right to receive respectful, dignified care; to be informed about your diagnosis and treatment options; to participate in your care decisions; and to refuse treatment. You are responsible for providing accurate and complete information about your health history, following your agreed-upon treatment plan, keeping scheduled appointments, and communicating openly with your provider.
Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs for your care if you are uninsured or if you choose not to use your insurance. You can ask for a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling an appointment. If your bill is $400 or more above the Good Faith Estimate, you may be able to dispute the bill. ADHD Care & Stimulant Medication Policy
Northern Lights Psychiatry provides evaluation and treatment for ADHD, including non-stimulant medication options when clinically appropriate. We do not prescribe stimulant medications of any kind, including amphetamines or methylphenidate-based medications. Our ADHD treatment approach may include: non-stimulant medication options, education and coping strategies, behavioral and lifestyle recommendations, and coordination with therapists or other providers when appropriate.
