🌌 Commitment to Quality Care & Confidentiality

At Northern Lights Psychiatry, our priority is to provide the highest quality psychiatric care in a respectful, supportive, and professional environment.
Every client deserves compassionate, evidence-based treatment built on trust, understanding, and collaboration.

🩺 Your First Visit

During your initial evaluation, we take the time to fully understand your concerns, medical and mental health history, and personal goals. This comprehensive assessment allows us to develop a thoughtful and individualized treatment approach.

At a follow-up visit, we will review our clinical impressions and discuss treatment options that may include:

  • Medication management

  • Supportive counseling

  • Referrals for therapy or community-based resources

Please note: no medication is prescribed until a full evaluation is completed.

We believe a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for effective treatment. The first visit helps ensure that this partnership is a good fit for both you and your provider.

🧠 ADHD Treatment Philosophy

Northern Lights Psychiatry does offer evaluation and treatment for ADHD, including non-stimulant medication options when clinically appropriate.

However, we do not prescribe stimulant medications of any kind (including amphetamines or methylphenidate-based medications).

Our ADHD treatment approach may include:

  • Non-stimulant medication options

  • Education and coping strategies

  • Behavioral and lifestyle recommendations

  • Coordination with therapists or other providers when appropriate

This policy is part of our commitment to safe, responsible, and individualized psychiatric care.

🔒 Confidentiality, HIPAA & Mandated Reporting

Your privacy and confidentiality are taken very seriously at Northern Lights Psychiatry. All records and communications are protected in accordance with HIPAA regulations and applicable state confidentiality laws.

Your information is never shared without your written consent, except when legally required.

By law, we are mandated to report situations involving:

  • Suspected child abuse or neglect

  • Suspected elder or dependent adult abuse

  • A serious risk of harm to self or others

In these cases, reports are made to the appropriate authorities to ensure safety and protection.

🛡️ Privacy & Security Practices

Your health information is safeguarded through multiple layers of security and encryption. Northern Lights Psychiatry complies fully with HIPAA Security Rule standards, including the use of:

  • Secure servers and encrypted communications

  • Password-protected systems and access controls

Our team participates in ongoing privacy and cybersecurity training. We regularly perform risk assessments, system updates, and encrypted data backups to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of your information.

All telehealth sessions and electronic communications are conducted exclusively through HIPAA-compliant, encrypted platforms.

🤝 Monitoring & Trust

As part of some treatment plans, random urine drug screens may be requested. These screenings are conducted during scheduled appointments and are used to:

  • Promote treatment safety

  • Monitor adherence when clinically indicated

  • Support transparency and mutual trust between patient and provider

Our goal is always to create a safe, respectful, and collaborative treatment environment.

Medication Policy

At Northern Lights Psychiatry, medications are prescribed and managed with your safety as our top priority.

  • You are expected to attend appointments as medically necessary and until a therapeutic medication level is achieved.

  • Refills are provided only during scheduled office or telehealth visits. Patients receive enough medication to last until their next appointment. We do not issue year-long refills, as ongoing monitoring is essential to prevent adverse reactions.

  • All specialty medications require regular monitoring. If you miss or cancel an appointment but still request a refill, you will be billed for the scheduled visit.

Controlled Substances

We do not prescribe:

  • Long-term benzodiazepines

  • Schedule II controlled substances (Stimulants including amphetamines or methylphenidate-based medications)

  • Opioid medications

Our philosophy is focused on recovery and long-term wellness. When short-term use of these medications is clinically necessary, our goal is to help you stabilize, then safely taper to reduce the risk of dependence or addiction.

Cancellation & No-Show Policy

Cancellations: A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows us to offer the time to another client.

Late Cancellations / No-Shows: If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice or do not attend your appointment, a $125 fee will be charged.

Medication Refills: Please note that medication refills will not be provided if you miss or cancel your appointment without proper notice.

Rescheduling: To continue care, you must call the office to reschedule. Payment of the missed appointment fee is required before booking your next visit.
